director, designer & letterpress printer
After a 10 year career working as a commercial designer and graphic design lecturer, Alischa had a yearning that their was much more to design then just sitting behind a computer. She took the chance to follow her heart, and listened to her drive to get inky, and decided to reinvent the then extinct craftsmanship of letterpress in Australia.
Alischa spent many years tinkering with her print mentor and replicated the apprenticeship he himself undertook back in the 1940's. Working together, they commenced the very long and hard task to source and restore vintage printing presses, and to learn the craft of printing from the very basic, right through to craftsman letterpress skills. Eventually, with her mentors very proud blessing, a very humble Bespoke Letterpress was born.
Initially set up as a two man team running from a sunny queenslander studio in Brisbane, these days, Bespoke Letterpress is run from our gorgeous cottage studio in the Southern Highlands of Sydney. Alischa is so grateful to be surrounded by a passionate (and oh so lovely) team who make the running of Bespoke Letterpress both a pleasure, and such a joy to design and print beautiful stationery with.
As well as running Bespoke, Alischa is also the National Events Manager for the fabulous Finders Keepers Markets, a platform to support emerging young designers - an area very close to her heart.
finance manager & chief press man
Hayden never imagined that when Alischa told him she wanted to find such old vintage letterpress machines, that he would end up loving them too. Haydens background is in Aviation, and when he isn't printing away in the studio or managing the accounts he is up in the air flying here and there around the countryside.
Being the chief pressman, he looks after the maintenance of our presses, ensures they are well oiled and in perfect working condition.
As our studio manager, Renée relishes the opportunity everyday to ensure the studio is ship-shape and operating smoothly. MISS RUBY TUESDAY
studio manager & courier spokesperson
Ruby is a sweet little Canadian dog (with the very fancy name of a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever) who joined our letterpress studio several years ago. She has settled well into her role as studio manager and oversees all studio happenings from her comfy position in the sunny corner.
She has an active morning by the front door and awaits courier deliveries, where she is our meet and greet spokesperson. Her afternoons are spent supervising and ensuring that production of the studio is as to her satisfaction.
world's cutest design assistant
Little Miss Daisy has a very important role which involves lap warming cuddles, advice and assistance with the keyboard and mice, and general design quality control contributions.
She is currently under training, and although she is a little partial to napping on the job, we have forgiven her lack of motivation, as her happy little face brings much sunshine into the studio!
